本年度的亏损主要是由于支付工人退休的成本。西友仍然坚持它全年的利润预期，即5亿日元，约合450万美元。

Tokyo-based supermarket chain Seiyu, 37.8% owned by U.S. parent Wal-Mart, posted on Wednesday a consolidated net loss of 2.88 billion yen (US$26 million) for the first fiscal half. The result was an improvement from the 8.43 billion yen net loss that the company posted for March-August last year before the company changed its accounting period. The loss for this year was largely due to early retirement costs. Seiyu kept unchanged its profit forecast for the year through December at 500 million yen (US$4.5 million). Seiyu is Japan's fourth-largest supermarket chain and operates 400 stores nationwide.
