Carrefour has rejected speculation that it may pull out of Mexico, stating that it plans to expand its store network next year. Jean-Noel Bironneau, head of Carrefours operation in Mexico, was reported as saying that the French group would open five or six stores in 2005. After Carrefour announced last week that it would sell around 1 billion euros in non-core assets, analysts have pointed to its operations in Mexico and Japan as likely disposal targets. Carrefour operates 27 wholly-owned hypermarkets in Mexico.
